Roads affected by HSBC UK City Ride Leicester


On Sunday 13 August, Leicester hosts HSBC UK City Ride Leicester (and the Castle Classic road race). As part of a day of traffic-free cycling designed to encourage as many people as possible to get out on their bikes, Leicester City Council will be making changes to access on the following roads:

Mill Lane / The Gateway / Newarke Close / The Newarke / Peacock Lane / St Martins / Hotel Street (from St Martins to Market Place North) / Market Place (from Hotel St to Victoria Parade) / Every Street / Cheapside / East Gates / Haymarket (from East Gates to Church Gate) / Church Gate (from Gallowtree Gate to St Peters Ln) / St Peters Lane (from Church Gate to E Bond St) / East Bond Street (from St Peters Ln to Causeway Ln) / Causeway Lane (from E Bond St to Bath House Ln) / Duns Lane (from St Augustine Rd to Western Blvd) / Castle Street (from St Augustine Rd to Castle View) / Castle View / Western Blvd / Eastern Blvd / Upperton Road (from Western Blvd to Raw Dykes Rd) / Raw Dykes Road / Filbert Way

Access Information – Western Blvd to King Power Stadium

If your property is on Upperton Road, Watkin Road, Hattersley Way, Darnall Road, Woodford Road, Helmdon Road, Quainton Road, Marylebone Place, Mint Road, Thyme Close, Sage Road, Coriander Road, Tarragon Road and Western Boulevard – you will be affected by temporary traffic restrictions. There will be a general prohibition of driving on Upperton Road from 5am to 8pm on Sunday 13th August. Except for Eastern Boulevard, vehicle access to and from your property will be maintained at all times via Upperton Road with access to and from Aylestone Road only. Eastern Boulevard will be fully closed for the event and you are requested to park elsewhere for the duration of the event.

To travel east towards the rugby ground you will need to follow diversion signs and the directions of traffic stewards via Narborough Road, St Nicholas Circle, Southgates and Welford Road.

To travel west towards Narborough Road you will need to follow diversion signs and the directions of traffic stewards via Aylestone Road, Oxford Street and St Nicholas Circle.

If your property is on Castle View, The Newarke, Duns Lane, Westbridge Close and Corah Street you will be affected by temporary traffic restrictions. There will be a general prohibition of driving and No Parking restrictions on your street from 5am to 8pm on Sunday 13th August. You are requested to park elsewhere for the duration of the event. The nearest short-stay parking will be the Tesco car park on Braunstone Gate.

Access information – city centre

Traffic orders will be in place which prohibits any vehicles from using city centre roads noted above from 5am to 8pm Sunday 13th August. Please can you ensure that any deliveries or maintenance work are rescheduled if planned during this period to avoid any disruption to your business.

In addition, there will be parking restrictions in place within the Market area. All vehicles must be removed from restricted parking areas by 5am until 8pm on Sunday 13th August. Any vehicles that contravene parking restrictions may be removed and impounded; a fee will be payable by the vehicle owner for the parking offence and the tow away / impound charges; the Parking enforcement team will be onsite during the event.
