Cuddington Train Station, off Warrington Road, Northwich, Cheshire CW8 2LD

Cuddington Train station is on the Mid-Cheshire line from Manchester Piccadilly to Chester via Stockport, Altrincham, Knutsford and Northwich. The station is on the A49 Warrington Road at the cross-roads with Norley Road. We shall meet at the car park opposite “The White Barn” pub and do a bike check and quick introduction to the route we will be taking. The route is fairly flat and the Whitegate Way is an ideal traffic-free route. The route has deep cuttings with oak, silver birch and bramble and provide an idea home for many woodland birds and animals.  Raised embankments above open farmland offer excellent views across the Cheshire Plain. On a clear day you can see Cloud End , Mow Cop and Jodrell Bank. The Whitegate railway line carried salt for almost 100 years, from the mines along the west bank of the River Weaver up to Cuddington where it joined the Chester - Manchester line.

The line finally closed in 1966 and today you can enjoy a picnic at Whitegate Station, the only station along the way.  Shady wooded cuttings contrast with sunny open embankments, offering spectacular views over the patchwork fields towards the Peckforton Hills. Our route will take us right along the way and back to Cuddington station where we can get a drink and refreshments. Please do bring a drink with you as there are now refreshments on the way. This ride is suited for all bikes as there are a few steady inclines. Please bring a helmet, inner tube and puncture repair kit just in case. The ride roughly takes 120mins cycling time with a couple of pit stops for a drink so please allow more time just in case the pace is slower than anticipated or we have a puncture. Newcomers to Breeze rides are very welcome, don't worry if you don't know anyone, we're a friendly bunch.  Dress appropriately for the weather: in cool weather it's good to wear lots of thin layers, so you can add/remove them as needed; a rain jacket is a good idea too. Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part.  If you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one then. If you need to ask any questions please call me on 07729 114055 or email me at [email protected]
