Prestatyn Railway Station, Sandy Lane, Prestatyn, Denbighshire, LL19 7ER

This is a longer ride along the North Wales costal path. There is 34 miles of cycle path along the North Wales coast between Talacre and Penmaenmawr. Today we will be starting at Prestatyn railway station going to Llandudno and back. It is mostly hard surfaced and nearly continuously off-road, apart from a 2-3 mile gap at Llandudno, a 260 yard gap on a main road at Rhos on Sea it is part of National Cycle Route 5 The route passes through the resorts of Prestatyn, Rhyl, Kinmel Bay, Pensarn (Abergele), Llanddulas, Colwyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea, Penrhyn Bay, and finishing in Llandudno. It goes along the promenades or seafronts at all these places now including Llandudno, until recently Conwy's cabinet have contentiously refused to rescind an ancient bylaw, so old it almost predates the invention of the bicycle, and was always used in an attempt to ban cycling on the promenade. Obviously there are fine and varied views of the coast and the sea, but also of the countryside, the Clwydian hills, the mountains of Snowdonia and the Great and Little Ormes There are a couple of suggestions for getting to Prestatyn by train or by car:- There are some train options as follows:  Train from Chester to Prestatyn leaves Chester at 09.55 arrives at Prestatyn at 10.23 (price for return is £12.90 without railcard) OR train from Bidston to Prestayn (change at Shotton) at 09.32 arrives at Prestayn at 10.23 (same as the above)  price £15.90 return http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ If you go by car with your bike and there is plenty of parking there (or I would suggest if you are going by car, park at the Offas Dyke cafe and we can meet you there). I you can let me know your preference that would be great so I will know where you are planning to be either the station or the OD cafe  http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/offasdyke   If you need to ask any questions please call me on 07729 114055 or email me at [email protected] Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part.  Depending on the weather please be ready for wet weather and wear appropriate clothing, also please bring snacks to eat and a lunch, a flask of hot soup is also a good idea! Look forward to seeing you there!
