Starting point

The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) http://www.clog.org.uk has one easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Non members can come up to 3 cycle rides or other events to try us out before joining. To join CLOG, visit our website http://www.clog.org.uk and click on the orange join us button.

We also do around 20 trips away(weekend or longer) in the UK and abroad every year.

A Kent cycle ride of contrasts: Marshes, charnel house, castles, rivers, woods, disused railway lines 26 miles

We start from Higham station and cycle towards Cliffe where we stop at the church to see the usual victorian charnel house and the view out across the marshes to the Thames.

Back on our bikes, we cycle past the surreal Cooling castle and then we head for the pictureasteque village of lower uppnor with its views over the Medway and its lovely houses and pubs and castle. Lunch will be at one of the pubs in Lower Upnor

After lunch we cycle to Strood where we pick up National Cycle Route 177, a traffic-free cycle path, and follow this past Shorne Woods and eventually we pick up another cycle path on a disused railway line into Gravesend where we get the train back to London.
