We will meet in the car park at Dobbie's and cycle south to join the C2C route as it crosses the A167 opposite the Wheatsheaf pub and then cycle downhill east towards Sunderland on cycle paths and quiet roads following the C2C route through to Sunderland Quayside. We intend to arrive at the Marina around 12:00.
We will then spend around half an hour having socially distanced coffee, cake and a chat at the Marina before following the same route back to the Northern Spire, crossing here to join the old C2C route on the south bank before descending to Cox Green pedestrian Bridge in the shadow of Penshaw monument to rejoin the route back to Dobbie's. it is also advisable to bring along your own snack and drink, in case of crowds.
It's around 25 miles of mainly off-road and very quiet side-road cycle with everything from quaint, historic, breathtaking, riverbanks, industrial, seaside, town centre and a little bit of unfortunately neglected...something for everyone.
Please do dress for the weather, expect it to be cold - double gloves, waterproof and warm clothes in layers and thick socks are a must as is a spare inner tube suitable for your bike. Covid restrictions will still apply, so do please bring along mask, gloves and any spare equipment that you may need,
Also, this is a longer ride so do bring something to snack on the route. Just from our recce though, also bring sunglasses, we may get lucky with the weather....
Helmets are advisable and also help keep your head warm!!
We look forward to cycling along with you.

A great chance to sample a small part of the c2c route into Sunderland, great bridges old and new, heritage buildings and the wonderful River Wear as well.
Off road apart from a short section through the pedestrianised centre of Sunderland.

Please bring along money for refreshments at the marina/seaside.
