(0) ReviewsA steady ride hopping across 10 parks in the borough of Brent - Roundwood, Gladstone, Welsh Harp, Roe Green, Woodcock, Northwick, Preston, King Edward VII, Barham and Brent River. This is mostly flat through back and quite roads, but with the odd busy section close to stations. We intend to go at a steady pace of approximately 9-10mph.
Our first park is Roundwood where we depart from in the direction of Gladstone Park through quietways. We will dismount to cross the busy Dudden Hill Lane, and take the subway to cross the North Circular as we move along to the Welsh Harp. We go along the reservoir and head North to Roe Green. We join busy Kingsbury Road on the cyclepath which takes us away from traffic until we are cycling quiet roads to Woodcock Park. The next park is Northwick, where we need to dismount to cross through the station to reach the park, and then we have to do the same again at South Kenton to reach Preston Park. We then move to our well-deserved break at a pub in Preston Road, and after that we carry on to King Edward VII and then Barham Park, where we should quickly spot their walled garden. We leave Barham using the busy Harrow Road and High Street until we reach Wembley Central and finally come out into back roads again and segregated paths, taking us back again to quickly cross Harrow Road into quiet roads to Brent River Park, our last park. We safely cross the North Circular and cycle in front of Neasden Temple to our starting point. The terrain at Welsh Harp is rough and can get muddy after rains, so a road bike with skinny tyres may struggle there. All the rest of the ride is suitable for all bikes.
Our stop will be at The Preston, a pub at Preston Road where we have tables reserved for coffee (or something more substantial) at their sheltered outdoor area where we will be allowed to bring our bikes in (the pub was very accommodating to our visit).
Helmets aren't compulsory but highly advisable. Please bring a mask to get inside the pub and their toilets. Following government rules for outdoor sports, we must keep at least one metre distance from each other while riding, and 2 metres when we stop for breaks. We mustn't share any equipment, so please make sure that your tyres are pumped and you have a spare inner tube and all necessary tools to change your own in case you have a puncture mid-ride. Places are limited and get booked up very fast, normally with a waiting list. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or have been told to self-isolate before the ride, or can't make it for any other reason, please ensure to cancel your space so someone else can join. Only riders who booked themselves on the ride will be allowed to join. Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains. Dress for the weather and bring a rain coat just in case.
