- This is a good opportunity for those of us living in urban areas to cycle out in the countryside on lovely scenic quiet roads. Considering this is the famously hilly Chilterns, this is a fairly flat ride. This is aimed at hybrid bikes - if you come on a road bike you will need to be prepared to go more slowly as hybrids are slower. We will ride at the pace of the slowest rider and always wait so that no one is left behind.
- We will cycle mainly on quiet roads to the Wendover Woods café where the toilets are open, via Copperkins Ln, Hyde Heath, The Lee, and Swan Bottom.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line off-peak Mon-Fri (peak hours are 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00). For info see
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycling-in-london/bikes-on-public-transportThere is a Chiltern Railways train from Harrow on the Hill at 9:39 which arrives in Amersham at 10:02 then you can cycle easily to the start. From Northwood station there is a Met Line tube at 9:35, arriving at 9:54.
- Or it takes 30 mins to drive from most towns within Hillingdon borough. If Hervines Park carpark is full there is free parking on South Road.
- If you want me to meet you at the underground station and cycle with you to the start, that is fine, message me the previous day and we will meet a little earlier.
- Please bring the usual gear (credit card, inner tube, etc). I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Check your brakes are working well, your gears are smooth and your tyres are in good condition and pumped up – you can use this video.
