- We will meet outside Chorleywood Underground Station on Station Approach WD3 5ND.
- We will cycle mainly on quiet roads and delightful country lanes to Tring for lunch at bicycle-themed cafe "The Cog" (15 miles there, another 15 back).
- If you cycle in the Chilterns, you will know that there is no such thing as a flat ride - sorry! But we will wait at the top of every hill to regroup. For those of you from Hillingdon Breeze, this is a chance to cycle somewhere different. I have called it "challenging" because you won't be used to these hills. For those of you from Chorleywood or Hemel Hempstead Breeze – I am aiming for pace of Greens or Blues, so it will only be easy-going for you.
- There will be no off-road sections, and because of the hills, this ride would be rather challenging on a MTB - you would be better off on your road bike.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line anytime on weekends and off-peak Mon-Fri (peak hours are 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00). For info see
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycling-in-london/bikes-on-public-transport- From Pinner Station there are Met line trains every 15 mins, which take 15 mins to Chorleywood.
- From Hillingdon Station the Met Line train at 9:34 towards Aldgate arrives at Rayners Lane 9:45, then Harrow on the Hill 9:48. Change to Met Line towards Amersham, departs 9:55, arrives Chorleywood 10:16. Alternatively from Hillingdon the Met Line at 9:49 arrives Rayners Lane 10am, Harrow on the Hill 10:03. Change to Chiltern Line Railways towards Aylesbury, departs 10:09, arrives Chorleywood 10:24.
- Or it takes 20-40 mins to drive from most towns within Hillingdon borough. There is free parking in roads west of the tube station e.g. St Peter's Way off Blacketts Wood Drive (make sure you don’t park any closer than that or there is bound to be that tricky thing they do with residents parking for 1 hour a day, contact me if you are unsure), or there is a car park under the tube station at 24 Chorleywood Bottom, £4 for all day.
- Bring money, water, snacks (banana/cereal bar), appropriate clothing for the weather (sun cream or waterproof?) and possibly a lightweight bike lock (to use as a deterrent while at café). Also tyre levers and a spare inner tube in case of punctures - even if you don’t know how to change them, someone in the group will. But don’t go overboard with heavy gear, as everything feels even heavier when cycling up those hills! I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- The ride is weather dependent and if I think it could affect our safety and dampen our enjoyment, I will cancel. I am keeping the number of riders small so we can all easily stay together while riding. If you need to cancel please do so in good time to give others a chance to sign up.
