Breeze the Durham Coast Part 3 - Castle Eden to Hartlepool

Join us for the final part of our 2018 Durham coastal ride. We’ve already pedalled from the River Tyne at South Shields to Seaham and for this trip we’ll be heading south from Castle Eden to join the River Tees where it reaches the sea at Hartlepool.

The route mainly follows the Haswell to Hart Railway Path but we’ll take a diversion off it near Blackhall/Crimdon where we’ll get right up close to the sea. There’s a bit of road riding in the vicinity of Hartlepool and Blackhall but otherwise the majority is off road.

A hybrid bike would be the best bet to deal with the mix of riding surfaces. It’s not very hilly for Durham with a profile of 800ft for the whole ride.

It will be cold at this time of year so please dress suitably for the weather - you will need decent gloves, a buff and extra layers and remember to bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off. You may want to bring some snacks for along the way.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Expect to be out for at least 4 hours including a lunch stop in Hartlepool. We can’t always predict how long our ride will take and it may be longer.

There is parking at the Village Hall as well as in the lay-by next to the road just here.

Breeze the Durham Coast Part 3 - Seaham to Hartlepool Sun 4th Nov 2018 9.30am 35 miles Start from Tommy Statue Terrace Green car park Seaham SR7 7EU Join us for the final part of our 2018 Durham coastal ride. We’ve already pedalled from the River Tyne at South Shields to Seaham and for this trip we’ll be heading south from Seaham to join the River Tees where it reaches the sea at Hartlepool. This is the longest of our seaside rides, being a round trip of 35 miles and following a half-half mix of NCN1 (off road) and roads. A hybrid bike would be the best bet to deal with the mix of riding surfaces. It’s not very hilly for Durham with a profile of 1600ft for the whole ride. However the challenge will be the length and it’s a good idea to have had some experience of this sort of distance or been building up to it. It will be cold at this time of year so please dress suitably for the weather - you will need decent gloves, a buff and extra layers and remember to bring a spare tube to fit your tyres.
