The route is mainly off-road, with a few farm tracks and quiet roads to negotiate. Sections of the original railway line were sold off or developed when it was closed, so the cycle route has been diverted across farmland and through some quiet residential areas. This steady paced ride is just less than 18 miles and is NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS, however, we will always ride at the pace of the slowest rider and no-one will be left behind. As we cross the South Downs there are some hilly sections with loose gravel.

We will stop in Henfield at the 'Old Railway' (formerly the 'Cat and Canary' pub) for refreshments and a rest before turning around and heading back to Shoreham.

This is a fantastic ride with some challenging terrain but superb views to enjoy as we ride. It is only suitable for mountain bikes or hybrids with knobbly tyres. Please give your bike a check over before you leave home, are the tyres pumped up? Are the gears and brakes working properly? Always carry a spare inner tube, puncture repair kit and a pump, just in case. Please come prepared for the weather forecast on the day, wearing a helmet is advisable.
