This is a 21.68 mile route from Wedmore heading towards the bottom of the Mendip Hills at Draycott. We have a steep climb to the top and will wait for those who need to get off and push! The route has a total ascent of 1272.71 ft and has a maximum elevation of 838.68 ft. Quite a challenging hill but worth it when reach the top to admire the view. Once on top we begin to meander along a welcoming straight open road where we join the Cliff Road which leads us downhill through the beautiful Cheddar Gorge. We reach Costa Coffee stop for much needed cake at the bottom.
Once we refuel we head along to cycle 2miles around Cheddar Reservoir taking in views of the Mendip Hills. We then start heading back to Wedmore via mainly quiet traffic free lanes and a short section of a busier straight road. We head up to Clewer and around past Wedmore Golf Club before finally heading downhill into Wedmore Village. There is another opportunity to stop for supplies at the Village Stores or something more at the Swan pub in the centre of Wedmore.
Advise to wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. Bring snacks, water and an inner tube. Helmets essential. I have mentioned the challenging hill but achievable at your own pace.
