A steady ride to the East End of London to visit an unusual memorial in Bethnal Green, and enjoy the quirkiness of Brick Lane. The route is mainly flat through back roads, but we will also find some busy roads, so this is not a ride for beginners.
We will get to Bethnal Green cutting through Camden, Islington and Hoxton. There, we will stop to admire the Stairway to Heaven (
https://stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org/), a memorial to the worst World War II disaster involving only civilians.
After that, we carry on to nearby Brick Lane, where we will stop at the lovely Kahaila (
https://kahaila.com/bricklane-2-2/), a charity-run café in the heart of Brick Lane. Please bring a sturdy lock (or 2) as we need to park on the road. We stay here for a while to give us an opportunity to walk along the vibrant area, with the option to visit Brick Lane Bikes before we take off. Bringing a shop bag is recommended, as you might find food (or bike supplies!) that you want to bring home.
We come back zig-zagging through Shoreditch, Bloomsbury and Little Venice. We aim to be back at Roundwood Park by 3pm.
