Starting point

Oxfordshire
SN6 8AG

A route of green lanes, gravel tracks, a bit hilly and some mud and puddles but worth it for the wind turbines, World War Two hideaway spot, cold war shadow factory and a fine cafe.

From Shrivenham Stocks head East on High Street towards Longcot, left on the Roundabout by Beehive Cottages, onto Faringdon Road, past the site of the old village Lime Kilns and then left onto Watchfield High Street. Carry on to the end past the memorial stone to the Watchfield Airmen and across the A420 using the central traffic island. Continue on B4508. Brief detour to the windmills before taking the gravel track that leads to Coleshill and the Carpenters Canteen. After coffee we head on the B4019 over the river Cole and after about half a mile take the left towards Sevenhampton. At the cross roads at the end of the lane are the grey giant hangar buildings used in the cold war, we head left down the hill, over the river Cole again and back into Shrivenham all in time for tea and medals.

Route rating

Windmills, a bit of off road gravel track, a new cafe, wartime shadow factories and all in a 10 mile loop

Quiet country lanes with about two miles on a rough gravel track (caution, may contain ruts, definitely has puddles !)

The Coleshill Carpenters Canteen, its a new one to me but I will visit myself before we go to get the low down

Don’t forget a full water bottle with your favourite thirst quencher. Please bring a face mask; you have to wear it on entering a café and in the event of first aid being required. For all our rides you should bring at least a spare inner tube and a pump. If your wheels are bolted on then a spanner that fits the nuts is also essential. Helmets are not compulsory but most definitely recommended. You should dress appropriately for the weather, and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or debit card for the coffee stop. Some café’s only take card payments.

We never leave anyone behind
