The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) https://www.clog.org.uk has an easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Non members can come up to 3 cycle rides or other events to try us out before joining. To join CLOG, visit our website https://www.clog.org.uk and click on the orange join us button.

We also do around 20 trips away(weekend or longer) in the UK and abroad every year.

Cycle ride: Essex rivers, woods and boat ride! 27 miles

Oct 14, 2018
(Cycling)
Wide skies, woods, open spaces, rivers and creeks - plus a boat ride on the Colne River (with your bike)!

We head out of Witham on cycle route 16, passing through Great Braxted and then stopping for morning tea at the Woodlands Tea Rooms. https://woodlandstearooms.co.uk

Back on our bikes we pedal though Little Totham, Tolleshunt Major, Tolleshunt Knights, Salcott, Great Wigborough to Peldon where we stop for lunch at the Peldon Plough

http://www.thepeldonplough.co.uk

After lunch it is off to Fingringhoe and Rowhedge where we can stop for afternoon tea at the Jam Jar cafe or a drink at the Anchor by the banks of the River Colne.

Then we catch the foot and cycle ferry along the River Colne to Wivenhoe run by volunteers. Looks rather fun! http://wivenhoerowhedgeferry.btck.co.uk. Cost £1 per person plus £2 for your bike and the boat journey takes around 10 minutes. The ferry only runs from 2 hours before the high tide to 1.5 hours afterwards and on Sunday October 14th it is only running between 14:15 to 17:45.

After arriving in Wivenhoe we cycle up by the river and Woods into Hythe where we catch the train back to London.

Sunse is at 18:09 so if we start running out of daylight, we can finish at Wivenhoe rather than Hythe

Meeting up

• Letsride followers (and other prospective CLOG members) can come on up to 3 events to try us out but after that you need to join CLOG (https://membermojo.co.uk/clog) to continue with us.

• Most attendees are members of CLOG and not on Letsride, so RSVPs do not indicate the total numbers expected.
