Starting from - We'll meet at the end of St Cadoc’s Avenue please park considerately to residents, but there is normally plenty of room and there is also a cut through from Dinas Powys train station if anyone is coming by train. There are no facilities here although Dinas Powys library is not too far away or we can stop in Cosmeston if needed!

You could also meet us at Cosmeston where there is plenty of parking, toilets etc. Let me know if you want more details on getting to either start point. CF64 4TY

From the starting point we’ll take the cycle path to Murchfield Community Centre and then up Sunnycroft Lane, we’ll then head for Murch Road and the hill up to the Doctors Surgery – there is no problem if you prefer to walk up this hill which is very potholey at the moment and is used by a lot of construction traffic. ‘Watery lane’ has however been reserved so is now nice and smooth through to Sully Road. We have a very short stretch on Sully Road before turning into the road to Old Cogan Hall Farm. We'll cycle through the Cosmeston Country park (now tarmacked). This would be a great place for anyone more nervous to join us. The exact order depends on attendees but I’d like to dip down St Mary’s Well Bay Road for views of Sully Island, along the railway path into Penarth – an optional climb up to more views from Penarth Headlands before rolling down to Penarth Pier for refreshments. We then have a short climb back up to the railway path from where we can return to Dinas Powys exactly the same way or by an alternative route more on roads and lanes. At the end there is an optional climb for another view in Dinas Powys if you’re feeling keen. I’ve allowed three hours, but it really depends on who comes along and how many stops we have – three hours should be the maximum time.

The exact route of this ride may vary, depending on conditions and who comes along. If you are a newer rider and would prefer to remain off road we can vary the route so you can join us at Cosmeston and we can do a shorter ride of about 3-4miles with you, before adding some extra hills and loops for those who are keener! The aim is a mix of cycle paths, mostly quiet roads and scenic views.

The route is a mixture of quiet roads and traffic free paths. There are a few busier roads in Penarth, but we can avoid these for anyone who wants to opt for a mainly traffic free route.

I plan to stop on Penarth Pier for a coffee, but again this could vary on the day as there are several other options on route or back in Dinas Powys at the end

The only essentials are a safe and working bike and clothing appropriate for the weather and gloves! If you have a spare inner tube/puncture repair kit do bring them, as well as money if you’d like to stop for refreshments. A lock would also be a great idea if you have one so we can secure the bikes whilst we have a coffee!

First-timers welcome!
