The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) https://www.clog.org.uk has an easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Non members can come up to 3 cycle rides or other events to try us out before joining. To join CLOG, visit our website https://www.clog.org.uk and click on the orange join us button.

Essex Lanes and Flitchway Cycle ride 25 miles

Another easy cycle ride for those who like quiet roads, rivers, old churches, abandoned railways and pretty villages.

The ride starts at Hatfield Peverel station. We cycle north to the picturesque village of Terling for morning tea at the Owls Hill tea room. The north to Great Whalley Hall, Ranks Green, North Whitehouse to pick up the cycle route into Braintree, eventually coming in by the river until we get to the Flitchway (abandoned railway between Braintree and Bishops Stortford).

We have lunch in the Booking Hall Cafe in the old station at Rayne
http://www.thebookinghall.co.uk/

The off on our bikes again along the Flitchway. We turn off to go through Frencies Green, Thirsty Green, Great Leighs, where we may stop for afternoon tea at The Castle (which has a homemade cake servery). Then back on our bikes heading for Lyons Hall, Terling Hall, and back to Hatfield Peverel station.
