The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) https://www.clog.org.uk has an easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Essex Pretty villages, woods and skies 30 miles

This is another easy cycle ride for those who like quiet roads, woods and open countryside, wide skies and pretty villages.

The ride starts and finishes at Ingatestone station. We cycle through Fryerning, Mill Green and Highwood, maybe stopping for a drink or coffee or whatever at the Fox and Goose in Cooksmill Green.

Then we head off through Radley Green, Pigstye Green, Norton Mandeville to High Ongar where we stop for lunch at the Foresters arms before pedalling through Standon Massey to Blackmore we can stop for coffee and cake at the cafe before cycling the last few miles to Fryerning and Ingatestone where we catch the train back to London.

How do I get there?
Be on the train that leaves Stratford (regular station) at 10:09 getting into Ingatestone at 10:36.

This train will have originated at Liverpool St at 10:02 and also stops at Shenfield.

Get a super off peak return to Ingateston for £7.20 with discount card.
