Sunday 18th February 2018 9:45am

Starting from - The start point for this ride is at the public car park at the entrance to the Horseshoe Lake and Water Activity centre, which is on the left as pull off the road. If you go too far up the road you will be at the activity centre, and the car parks there are for Activity Centre users only.

I don't currently know if this is a free or paid for car park, but will try to get out over there before ride day and let people know.

For anyone wishing to arrive by train, Crowthorne and Sandhurst stations are both fairly close.

Please aim to be at the meeting point for 9.30am so that we can have 'wheels rolling' for 9.45am, GU47 8JW

Starting point

This ride will start at the Public Car Park adjacent to the Horseshoe Lakes in Sandhurst, we will then follow some quiet country lanes out towards Finchampstead and then in towards the general area of Arborfield. Once we are on the outskirts of Arborfiled will have to cross the A327 and ride out through Farley Hill (which isn't huge!) and towards Swallowfield where we will double back towards Arborfield where there is an opportunity to stop at Lockey Farm shop Cafe for some light refreshment. From here we'll follow the road through to Barkham and then back to a short stretch of the Nine Mile Ride where we pick up the quiet country lanes that we rode out on for the return back to the start.

This route is generally quiet although there may be a short stretch (approx 3/4 mile along the busy A327 at mile 5. (We may be able to avoid this on the day, but I need to see if some of the new roads being planned for that area are open before then). The first couple of miles after the Cafe stop can sometimes be a little busy but nothing too much.

This is a reasonably flatish route with a short sharp climb at about 2.6 miles, Farley hill is at 6.5 miles and the first hill is ridden again in reverse on the way back at around 14 miles.

Children under sixteen are welcome however they must be accompanied by at least one parent, and should be comfortable with riding on the road in with a group of other riders.

We will take a number of photos before, during and after the ride which will be posted on the Fat Lad At The Back Facebook pages.
