PR1 4LX

We set of from Frenchwood carpark and ride along a short stretch of residential road to join the Guildwheel cyclepath. We turn right onto the path and head through Avenham and Miller parks . We follow the River Ribble all the way to Preston marina where we cross the over the water using the cyclepath provided. We then continue on the path until we reach our destination, a small viewing point where we get a great view the Preston skyline and get the opportunity to watch the varied birdlife that can be found on this stretch of the river. Look out for Teales, Herons, Shell ducks Canada geese and Terns that have taken up residence at the marina. We now retrace our steps back as far as the old cobbled bridge here we cross to the south side of the river and make use of the south ribble cycle paths and enjoy the great views of the parks we have just come through. With our legs nicely warmed up we now make the climb to Preston Junction and Walton Le dale. As we pass under the old railway bridge we turn right through a gate and climb up to the cycle path. We continue along this path, recover from the climb then descend to cross a path and immediately climb back up again. We descend through a gate , take the path to the left and cycle the gradual incline to Walton le dale. On reaching a small park we turn left and head for Hennel lane. After a short section on the road we join a cycle path that leads us to the Capitol centre, here we cycle alongside London way , cross the river then join the Guild wheel path to brockholes. This is a very scenic part of the route with a some cattle grids to negotiate and a couple of short inclines. At the visitors centre we will take a short break, enjoy the surroundings and take advantage of the facilities. We now retrace our steps back to London way, cross using the cycle crossing provided and stay on the guildwheel path back to our starting point at Frenchwood.

We will aim for an average speed of 8-10 miles an hour

This is a challenging traffic free cycle route linking Avenham park and Ceurden valley park. Ideal for those wanting to test themselves. It provides us with the opportunity to increase our mileage without venturing onto the roads.

The route is almost entirely traffic free making use of the Preston Guild wheel cycle path and connecting South Ribble cycle ways. All bikes are suitable for this terrain but must be in a road worthy condition.

We will stop at Brockholes nature reserve where we can enjoy a coffee and take advantage of facilities. There will also be plenty of opportunities to stop for a breather and enjoy the surrounding countryside.

Please bring some water and a snack and some money if you wish to purchase food and/or drink at the coffee stop. Be prepared for cold/warm/wet weather conditions. Riders are advised to wear a helmet and it is compulsory for those under 18 to wear a helmet. Prior to the start of the ride there will be a short bike check and safety brief but please make sure that your bike is in working order before joining the ride. Please carry a spare inner tube and tools necessary to carry out a puncture repair

This is a small friendly group of women who enjoy a gentle ride round the parks and cycleways in our area. We love to welcome new members and we never leave anyone behind.
