Starting point

London

This is a long ride, right across Central London and out to Greenwich, returning by a different route. It will be a challenge, but most of the route is flat, and large sections of it are on traffic-free cycle tracks. We are also never far from public transport options if anyone is unable to complete the whole ride.

We ride from Ealing into Central London via Holland Park and the Royal Parks, down to Westminster Bridge. Crossing the river, we follow Quietway 1 along pleasant side streets through Bermondsey, and then back onto the riverfront at Deptford where we will see the remarkable Peter the Great statue. A short stretch of riverside path will then bring us into the heart of Greenwich, alongside the Cutty Sark.

We will give ourselves a generous lunchtime break, with time for a stroll around Greenwich town or into the Park, as well as refuelling for the return journey.

We ride across the Greenwich Peninsular to reach the new developments around the O2 Centre and rejoin the river path to the Thames Barrier. From there, it’s a short ride to the Woolwich Ferry (free; face coverings required), which will take us over the river to North Woolwich. From there, it’s a surprisingly straightforward journey back across East London on Cycleway 3, returning to the Royal Parks then taking a different route via Wormwood Scrubs and Cycleway 34 from East Acton and back to Ealing.

Please do not attend if you or anyone in your household has any Covid 19 symptoms or is currently required to self-isolate. We will maintain social distancing and hygiene precautions. Please bring hand sanitiser, wipes etc and a face covering, which is required for the Woolwich Ferry, unless you are exempt. Bring plenty of snacks to keep your energy up during the ride. Remember to bring a lock for your bike and lights as it will be getting on for dusk by the time we return.
