Starting near Hammersmith Bridge next to the Rutland Arms pub on the Thames path we cross over the now reopened Hammersmith Bridge into leafy Barnes using quiet back streets.

Head up to Richmond Park which has the only bit of any real climbing on the route but it is not that steep, is only for a short distance and is the easiest hill there I know.

Existing at the Kingston gate we head down to the Thames and cross over the bridge using the segregated cycle lane and turn into the Thames path all the way to Hampton Court.

Cross over the road using the pelican crossing on to the cycle lane and into Bushy Park where there are a couple of places we can stop and depending on what everyone wishes to do we coud ride around some more parts of the park.

Exiting at the far east gate we cross the zebra crossing and head up to Teddington Lock where we cross over the bridge and take the road to Ham House and on to Richmond lock and weir where we have to carry our bikes up and down a few steps to cross over and on to Syon Park.

Along London Road to Kew Bridge and using quite road and the Thames path to arrive back from where we started.

An alternative route when we get to Richmond would be to go up Richmod Hill (which is quite step but the view at the top is worth it) and back across the park and exit at Sheen Gate and down to the river and join up to the Thames path.

Mainly on quiet roads or off road, the only bit of road with traffiic is on London Road after we leave Syon Park to go to Kew Bridge. There is some light gravel along the stretch from Kingston to Hampton Court and in Bushy park the rest is tarmac.

There is a coffee kisok and a cafe in Bushy Park neither of which I have first hand experience of and so we decide which everyone prefers on the day and well make another pit stop along the route.

Helmets must be worn and bring any snacks and liquids etc that you may need as well as spare inner tube etc

Even though this is set as a challenging ride it is only the distance that some may consider to be so, but it is only just over 25 miles and nearly all on the flat.

I live in Notting Hill and if anyone who might be coming from near or north of me and wishes to meet up in Avondale Park, W11 4PJ, beforehand and cycle to Hammersmith together as I know a quiet route, then just send me a message.
