The ride will start from the car park at Sherdley Park, St Helens and we head out towards Sutton Manor Woodland Park, the site of the iconic Dream sculpture recently made very popular with visitors after featuring on TV in Harlan Coben's dramatisation of 'Stay Close' starring James Nesbitt. We can expect it to very busy around the attraction so extra care will be needed on the climb to the summit. After a short stop to catch our breath and take in the views, we head out towards Burtonwood and cross the busy A59 at Winwick to take the road through Croft Village and on to our cafe stop at Partridge Lakes Coarse Fishery in Culcheth. Our return journey will take us past HMP Risley, back through Croft and onto Burtonwood, past the Brewery, Bold, St Helens Junction and back to our start at Sherdley Park.

A route mostly on main roads but with short sections on gravel paths in and around Sutton Manor Woodland Park, the location of the iconic Dream sculpture recently featured on Netflix in a dramatisation of 'Stay Close' featuring James Nesbitt. Our cafe stop will be at Partridge Lakes Coarse Fishery at Culcheth.

This ride is suitable for hybrid bikes (fitted with road and off-road tyres), mountain bikes and road bikes (with caution) and is mostly on hard surface roads, cycle paths and park paths some of which have a loose stone finish.

There is a great bike friendly café at Partridge Lakes with plenty of seating inside or out and great views over the coarse fishing lakes. Make sure you bring along money for your food (and food to feed the fish!) but, if you prefer, bring your own packed lunch and drinks. Or the other alternative: there is an ice cream van in the park on your return if you need an ice cream fix!

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). We expect all our riders to adhere to all the current government guidelines with regard to social distancing and precautions needed during the current pandemic. Please remember to bring a mask. If in any doubt, please ask and we will provide all relevant BC guidance.

It is essential that everybody enjoys the ride so it will be at an average speed of 9-11mph , but the pace will be determined by the overall pace of the group. Always remember, we will never leave anyone behind!
