Starting point

Starting from the historic Devil's Bridge, this graceful ride takes us via quiet back lanes to the Book Town of Sedbergh, then back down the other side of the Lune Valley to Kirkby Lonsdale.

On the way, we'll pass many farms and country houses. We'll take the ride at a steady pace and if the weather's clear we have wonderful views of Barbon Fell and across to the Howgills. There are only two short stretches on B roads, so outside the towns we're more likely to see pheasants and horse-drawn carts than cars and lorries.

Coffee and cake stop if we need one in Sedbergh, with another in KL at the end of the ride.

NB In several places the lanes have a loose surface, so riders with very skinny racing tyres will need to take special care.
