MK Council Get-Cycling Heritage Open Day Ride - Sunday 19th Sept

https://www.livingarchive.org.uk/events/event/on/2021/09/19

Bring the family and take part in Heritage Open Days (HODS) - visit some of the great HODS events taking place this Sunday.

We start at MK Museum for FREE entry to the Museum Beer festival (come early if you want to see the rest of the museum as you can spend all day there - note there is and entry fee for the rest of the museum exhibits). Then (1.30pm) we join-up and cycle as a group to Wolverton where we'll see the famous Train Mural and Secret Garden.

A short while later we'll visit the Old Bath House where we'll learn more about Wolverton Works at the HODS Wolverton Works Photographic Exhibition.

Next we'll have a short trip round the Wolvertons 18th Scarecrow Festival where Scarecrows come out of houses into gardens for the Festival weekend.

Cycle around to find them, perhaps starting from The Square and going along to the Community Orchard where light refreshments will be available.

The ride is only about 3 miles and is suitable for everyone.

We will return to Mk Museum around 4.00pm.

This ride is often over-subscribed, so please book early.

Get out on your bike this year by joining a fun and friendly organised cycle ride.
Gentle rides every Sunday, perfect for beginners and families or those wanting to explore beautiful traffic free routes around MK. Rides last around 2 – 3 hours and cover 5-11 miles depending on the age and ability of the group. All of the rides are led by very friendly, experienced and knowledgeable cyclists. We ride at the pace of the group and never leave anyone behind.

Full details of all the routes can be found here : https://getaroundmk.org.uk/cycling/where-to-ride/cultural-routes

Book your place
Numbers are limited on every ride. You must book your place at least 2 hours before the ride using the Lets Ride website. All of the council's cycle rides are listed under the name ‘Get Cycling MK’ so it’s easy to see who you will be riding with.

This is a covid secure ride which means that we will keep our distance from each other. Please also bring along a face covering and some hand sanitizer. You are NOT required to wear a face covering while riding . Out of courtesy for others, please do not attend if you are showing any covid symptoms such as a persistent cough or high temperature, or if you have come into contact with anyone with these symptoms.

Who can join a ride?
All riders including beginners and families are welcome. These rides are perfect for anyone wanting to find new cycle routes and meet new friends. We especially welcome newbies!

Borrow a bike
No bike? No problem! Almost all of our rides depart from a Santander Cycles MK docking station. If you need to hire a bike follow these simple steps:
1. Register with Santander Cycles MK before the ride
2. Register for the ride on the Lets Ride website
3. Check whether there’s a bike available at the Santander Cycles MK docking station https://www.santandercycles.co.uk/find-a-bike

Bike checks and equipment
If you’re bringing your own bike, or a friends, check it over before the ride – make sure the tyres are fully inflated and not too worn; brakes should stop the bike well and you should be able to operate them. If you have gears, they should work and very importantly, the bike should fit you, and not be too big or too small . We highly recommend all riders wear helmets. Minors must wear helmets for the ride.

Improve your skills
Our ride leaders are happy to give you tips and techniques to help you cycle more confidently, but if you’re interested in improving your skills, we also offer a wide variety of cycle training courses. Bikeability cycle training courses are designed to help you ride safely and confidently anywhere cycling is permitted. More information is available on the Milton Keynes Council's Get Smarter Travel MK Website here https://www.getsmartertravelmk.org/cycling/skills-training/bikeability-and-bikeability-plus-courses
