Starting point

London

A ride mostly away from motor traffic to Northala Fields, in Ealing, predominantly using the Grand Union Canal. This is suitable for those who want to practice cycling but aren't confident on roads, or simply want a quiet scenic ride.

We join the Grand Union Canal near Harlesden Station and come out at Twyford Abbey Road to use a segregated cycling path in Park Royal and quiet roads through Hanger Lane and Ealing until Pitshanger and Perivale Parks.

We then join the segregated walking and cycling path along Western Avenue through Marnham Fields in Greenford until we reach Northala Fields where we stop for a coffee and loo break.

On the way back, we join the Grand Union Canal again and continue all the way to Abbey Road, where we take the shared pedestrian and cycling pavement along the North Circular to Stonebridge Park and quiet roads in Harlesden.

This route has some unpaved sections with gravel which may make it difficult for road bikes with skinny tyres. All other bikes are suitable.

Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. We recommend that you keep social distancing and wear a mask if entering a busy indoor space like a toilet.

Places are limited and sometimes get booked up with a waiting list. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or have been told to self-isolate before the ride, or can't make it for any other reason, please ensure to cancel your space so someone else can join. Only riders who booked themselves on the ride will be allowed to join. Children are welcome but must feel confident on their bikes and supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Maximum of 2 children per adult – and they must be signed up to the ride too.

Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains. Dress for the weather and bring a rain coat just in case.
