Welcome to Britain’s biggest network of cyclists! Meet like-minded riders, create groups, and organise your own rides.

Starting point

S4 7YB

Canal Basin, Victoria Quays, inside the Furnival Road entrance (near the Victoria Hotel Holiday Inn), S47YB

Even when the cycle route has been blocked by huge, concrete blocks, such as along the so-called completed Blackburn Valley Cycle Route (funded by the Sustainable Transport Exemplar Fund – STEP) – and walkers are welcome to use it, too, we are still the friendliest and happiest Critical Mass group in the world. Indeed, you can join Sheffield City Region Critical Mass Group – the friendliest and happiest Critical Mass group in the world as we cycle along the otter-ly wonderful Five Weirs Walk & Cycle Route to outside Meadowhall Oasis (ETA 10.20am), and then visit the huge barriers to cycling at the edge of Shiregreen.

Really! Otters have been photographed and filmed swimming in the River Don adjacent to the otter-ly wonderful cycle route, which people have said that it is very hard to follow. And Really! There are huge, concrete barriers to cycling on the so-called completed Blackburn Valley Cycle Route at the edge of Shiregreen.

There is the option to join us at 10.20-10.45 on the cycle route outside Meadowhall Oasis. There is also the option to cycle at a steady pace to Old Moor. Fortunately, there are more toilets and coffee shops at Meadowhall than we can shake our spokes at, and the cycle route might have bumps and mud, although it should make you very happy to be a cyclist, as well. Especially when cycling with like-minded, otter-ly wonderful people.

We really are going to revisit the end of the so-called completed Blackburn Valley Cycle Route, which is at the edge of Shiregreen, rather than Chapeltown. Indeed, the photo was taken at the concrete barriers on Sunday June 3rd, 2018, as our mixed group of happy riders discussed what could be done to make cyclists using this route very happy. The problem is that even though STEP funding had been granted the landowners and Sheffield City Council’s officers could not reach an agreement to build new cycling and walking infrastructure at that important location. Therefore, we attended Cycle Sheffield’s AGM to ask them to petition Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis about intervening to remove these unwelcomed barriers to cycling, completing the cycle route, and making both cyclists and walkers very happy.

Hope you have an otter-ly amazing time, too. #SheffieldCityRegion
