On 6 February 1918, the Representation of the People Act was passed in the UK Parliament, meaning for the first time in this country women over the age of 30 had the right to vote.
The Suffragettes led the campaign for the emancipation of women and bicycles featured heavily in the organisation. Many of these brave women were persecuted for their efforts.
Join me, 100 years to the day, to celebrate, honour and remember these glorious women and their remarkable achievements.
We will take a traffic free meander around the Big Track.
Purple, green and white clothing would be great if you can! Suffrage sashes, badges etc are positively encouraged.
Please dress for the weather and bring a spare inner tube just in case. Helmets, while not mandatory, are advisable for your own safety.
I am mindful that this ride is in early February so I will be keeping a close eye on the weather. We won't take any risks if there is any doubt around the safety of participants.
There will, of course, be a cafe stop.
