Starting from - Porteur cycling cafe, 210 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2DJ

You can bring your bike inside this bike friendly cafe - there is safe bike storage inside, at the back of the cafe Kelly is in charge of the cafe side of things - with locally roasted coffee, wide range of teas, and lots of freshly baked cakes on offer, you might want to turn up early for some fuel for the ride and chat with other riders. Paul, the mechanic in charge of the workshop, can have a look at your bike if it's making a funny noise, and there is a track pump in the bike store to fully inflate your tyres before we ride out. Starting point

East Sussex

This is the sixth ride in a series of nine between March and May, to get you ready for summer cycling holiday, sportive, or challenge ride. We go from 10 miles on the first ride to 35 miles in May.

This is a hilly route, getting you used to climbing as well as descending if you're following the series of training rides.

We start gently climbing as we leave the seafront in Hove, heading up towards Devil's Dyke. Once onto the South Downs, we're on quiet country lanes, and keep the ridge of hills on our left as we head west along Edburton Road (through the villages of Poynings, Fulking, and Edburton).

We can pause in Bramber or Steyning if we want a breather, or push on to head south again on Coombe Lane, a popular cycling route. Once we're in Shoreham we follow the seafront back towards Hove, using quiet residential streets and cycle paths.

Please check your bike before heading out:
- are the tyres fully inflated?
- do both brakes work well?
- is the chain lubricated?

Bring a spare inner tube for your bike (easier to change an inner tube than fix a puncture by the side of the road, and all bikes are different so you need one to fit your bike), suitable clothing for the weather, and money for the cafe.

Please arrive at the cafe in plenty of time for the ride. We will not necessarily wait for you if you're late. If delayed, call the ride leader Alison so we know not to wait (07967 094967).

If you have any questions about the ride, contact Alison on [email protected] or 07967 094967.
