London

If you're missing the Open Garden Squares, here's a scoot round some municipal showpieces. Every Borough has, or had, a few high-quality gardens, which are worth pausing to walk round and sniff the roses.

Regular riders may be aware of some threats to the future of this group: we have been thrown out of CyclingUK, LCC are threatening legal action, and British Cycling are threatening to throw us off LetsRide. These threats must be taken seriously. British Cycling have asked me to resolve the problems and avert their particular threat. I think the answer must be in the hands of the ridership, so during this ride, which has many walk-and-talk opportunities, I'd like to discuss the possibilities, in advance of settling the matter in the next few weeks. Anyone interested in the future of the group should take part now.

The provisional itinerary is:
Dulwich Park
Peckham Rye - very surprising - big and magnificent flower garden
Mountsfield Park, Catford - a little knot garden by the cafe
Beckenham Place - an optimistic formal suite amid the ruins.
Coombe Wood, Croydon - few actual roses, but fine herbaceous and rock gardens. Lunch at the Coach House Cafe
Park Hill, Croydon - probably just riding through
The Rookery, Streatham Common - surprisingly secret for a set of terraces on the side of a hill; with the possibility of tea.
Brockwell Park - nice final surprise.
and back to Dulwich.

Very little (unusually little) off-road.

Not all these places are well-endowed with hitching rails - in some we may need some informal expedients.

The usual advice applies, to ensure the bike in good working order, with a spare inner tube, though we shall be almost always within a mile or so of a railway, if rescue is needed.

Because it's so new, almost everything about this ride is negotiable, and I'm open to alternative suggestions. I've been generous with the time allocation - so we can be quite slow, or fit more in, or we could decide to speed up and arrive early. Message me with your preferences.

At the risk of being repetitive: there are some threats to the future of this group. Cycling UK have thrown us out already, LCC are threatening legal action, and British Cycling are threatening to throw us off LetsRide.
