Sunderland Bridge to Shincliffe
Saturday 2nd March 2pm 7 miles
Start Sunderland Bridge DH6 5JL at the ‘old road’ bridge over the River Wear
This is the ride for you, if you’ve been thinking about joining us but haven’t got round to it yet. It is a lovely short ride which we’ll take at a leisurely pace and the perfect way to ease yourself in to joining a group ride.
We’ll start from the ‘old bridge’ at Sunderland Bridge and will pedal our way via bridleway across the Croxdale Estate to Shincliffe where we’ll stop for a cuppa at Betty Bees in Shincliffe. Apart from the last couple of hundred metres it is all off road and relatively flat with just one uphill close to the start where we climb away from the Wear. We’ll return via the same bridleway meaning a downhill finish!
The ride is most suitable for hybrid and mountain bikes as it is mostly a stone surface.
In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. We should be riding for about 30-40 minutes each way but expect to be out for about 21/2 - 3 hours.
Please come prepared for winter weather with plenty of clothes including gloves, buffs, plenty of layers etc. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off.
For any queries please contact us at
[email protected]. For any last minute cancellations on the day please text 07493808927 (note this phone is only for the day of the ride) otherwise use the option to cancel when you log in to letsride.co.uk. As we are at the mercy of the weather at this time of year we may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great (including the option of going for a walk). We'll make any decision to cancel/alter plans by 12 noon and let you know by text, as well as posting on our Breeze Network Durham Facebook page. No need to send us any messages before then asking us what’s happening. If you don’t hear from us the ride will be going ahead as planned.
We look forward to meeting you.
