Heading out of Cockermouth via Castlegate towards Isel. Where we shall turn onto some peculiarly straight roads for Cumbria leading to Sunderland. From which we can enjoy different great views south down Bassenthwaite Lake. We will turn onto the A591 for a short stretch at Bewaldeth and off again at the Castle Inn. Skirting the head of the lake to Ouse Bridge, before heading back into Cockermouth around the rear of Setmurthy.

This one is one of those rides that everyone thinks they know, but usually don't. Its in between Cockermouth and Bassenthwaite, via Isel, Sunderland and... but it's not where you think it is. It has a bit of everything and great views to boot.

All of the route undulates along quiet back roads with a short stretch on the A591. The ride is suitable for those who have been out on a bike a few times and wanting to venture a bit further in addition to more regular riders.

www.lakesdistillery.com a great pitstop for coffee, cake & more.

Helmets are essential, a spare inner tube useful, comfortable clothing – a waterproof if wet, some water and a snack is advisable. As is some money, or your favorite card for the pit stop.

We never leave anyone behind
