Starting point

Cumbria

The route starts at the picturesque Talkin Tarn. On leaving the Tarn we will turn left and head towards Castle Carrock, we will be climbing hills at this point and will cross the River Gelt on route into the village. We will continue through the village and turn right at the end of the village. From here we will continue on a fairly flat section of the route which provides some stunning views of the Castle Carrock and Cumrew fells. Once reaching Carlatton we will turn left and head towards Cumrew, again this section is fairly flat with one or two climbs on it. On reaching the junction near Cumrew we will turn left once again and head back towards Castle Carrock on again mainly flat roads. Once back at Castle Carrock we will return to the Tarn along the same route we initially traveled on. This again will include a couple of moderate hills which we will ride together as a group. On returning to the Tarn their will be the chance for the intrepid exporers to get a well deserved brew. .

A great ride to get out and about on some moderate hills

We will be riding on roads so suitable for all types of bikes. The roads are country lanes, some will be quieter than others but this is a great opportunity to gain more confidence on riding on routes that have other road users useing them.

Although there are no stops planned along this route there is Talkin Tarn Country Park Tearooms at the start and end point so you can get a much deserved brew!

Please bring sufficient refreshments for out on the ride and some money/ payment method if you fancy a brew once finished. If parking at Talkin Tarn remember it is a pay and display car park. Please bring appropriate clothing depending on the weather forecast and a waterproof just in case. If you have access to a spare inner tube for your bike it is highly recommended you bring it along with a puncture repair kit.

First timers are always welcome on the rides that we do, we recommend you look at the terrain for this ride and that you are confident your gears and brakes are working effectively. We will be cycling as a group so no one is left behind.
