This is a challenging ride, and a reasonable level of fitness is required. It requires a bike with road tyre fitted. Do note that there are some steep ascents and descents on this route involving 1,650 ft of climbing.
This is a Racey Rds level ride - Experienced & confident road cyclists only 20-30 miles, 10 - 12 mph on varied roads with hills.
The route starts from the historic Shoreham Tollbridge (the wooden bridge). It is a bridge crossing the River Adur in West Sussex, England and is the last of its kind in Sussex and one of the last of its kind anywhere in the world.
We head up Coombes road to Steyning, then Ashington and Spear Hill. We pause for a refreshment at the Kin Bubble, a relaxed and informal café, offering world-class sourdough, pastries, buns and cookies! Refreshed, we head towards Heath Common, before retracing our steps past Ashington and Wiston and the undulating road home back via Coombes to the Shoreham Tollbridge.
This is a fantastic ride with superb countryside views to enjoy as we ride.
Please give your bike a check over before you leave home. Check that the tyres are pumped up. Are the gears and brakes working properly? Always carry a spare inner tube that fits your tyres, a puncture repair kit and a pump, just in case. Bring a drink for the ride and some snacks to keep you going. Please come prepared for the weather forecast on the day, wearing a helmet is strongly advised. Bring money for the refreshment stop and layers of clothes to deal with changing conditions and getting cold when we stop.
We never leave anyone behind!
