From The Leggers Inn we will start out along the Ossett Greenway to Horbury before heading down Green Lane to Pugneys, and then to Newmillerdam.
From the from there we will call at Sandal Castle and the Hepworth Gallery before heading back to Leggers via Green Lane, Horbury and Ossett.
Please be aware that there are hills along the route.
At this distance the weather forecast looks ok for Sunday so we should have another good ride along this popular route.

After leaving The Leggers Inn this ride travels along the traffic-free Ossett Greenway and then through Horbury and Pugneys before arriving at Newmillerdam. There is a short steep section on the Ossett Greenway but ‘short’ is the keyword. There are other gradients along the way so be prepared to be challenged on occasions.

We will travel along a combination of greenways and tarmac roads. We will encounter a reasonable amount of traffic on the tarmac sections so riders will need to be confident in those situations. Mountain bikes, hybrids and road bikes should be ok on this ride, though there is a short section along the canal bank.

A circuit of the castle may be taken if time/conditions are favourable. A toilet stop can be taken at Pugneys and the Hepworth Gallery as required. Please note that we will not be stopping at the gallery for anything other than the toilets. The café back at The Leggers Inn is currently undergoing a re-fit but we were informed yesterday that it should be re-opened and serving breakfast & brunches by the 1st August, possibly sooner.

Helmets are mandatory on all Kirklees Riders outings. Please bring a spare inner tube suitable for the tyres on the bike you are riding. I am sure by now that you are all familiar with the latest government guidelines relating to social distancing. If in doubt please make sure you familiarise yourself between now and Sunday’s ride. Please also ensure you bring the anti-bacterial agents necessary to keep both yourself and your fellow riders safe throughout the ride. If you or any members of your family are showing COVID 19 symptoms, or self-isolating, please stay at home. I would also remind you that this is not a guided ride and each participant remains responsible for their own actions or omissions at all times.
