This ride is from Hailey Park up the Taff trail through Tongwynlais, Ynysagharad Park Pontypridd, and on to the pretty Barry Sidings Country Park with its woodland, waterfall and duck pond. In the late 1800's the original railway sidings allowed coal loaded from the nearby Lewis Merthyr Colliery (now Rhondda Heritage Park) to be transported to the docks of Barry, where it was exported across the world.
We will cycle along the car free Taff trail to Tongwynlais, where there is short stretch on quiet roads before the car free trail resumes. There is another short stretch on a quiet roads going into and out of Pontypridd and there are also a couple of short hills, but the ride is mainly gentle gradients. It is tarmac for most of the way, but can be bumpy with tree roots in places, but is suitable for all bikes.
After a refreshment stop at the cafe in Barry Sidings Country Park, and an optional group photo, we will retrace our tracks to Hailey Park. There are toilets and a bike service and accessories shop at Barry Sidings.
Please bring some money if you would like to buy refreshments. It is recommended to wear a helmet, also bring a spare inner tube if you have one, and a bike lock.
We never leave anyone behind
