Starting point

BH31 6HF

Ferret Green car park, (outside Costa), on Ringwood road in Verwood, Dorset BH316HF. Parking is free with public toilets on Ferret Green, changing facilities are not available.

This is a moderate road ride of 25 miles ideal for for those riders with some experience of road riding which has some, but not too many, challenging hills mostly following National Cycle Routes through picturesque Dorset villages through part of Cranborne Chase and crossing Ackling Dyke Roman Road, the ride is set in a friendly non competitive atmosphere.
Starting at Ferret Green car park, next to Costa, in Verwood we will ride through to Woodlands and then on to Knowlton medieval Church and ruined Neolithic ritual Henge. From here we will ride through the beautiful Dorset Villages of Gussage St Michael and Gussage All Saints following the chalk valley through to Thornicomb and onto Six Penny Handly. We will then turn and cross the Roman Road, (Acking Dyke), cutting through it as we ride alonside Neolithic burial grounds towards and into Wimbourne St Giles. Next is Edmonsham and then onto Verwood where we will stop for the all important tea and cakes not forgetting a good natter!
This is a lovely ride with a few, though too many, challenging hills with a relatively flat section through the villages. The ride should take around 2 to 2.5 hours in which you will see rural Dorset, at hopefully, its best!
The ride will mainly be on National Cycle Routes which should be quiet although we will cross a couple of main roads and cover a small distance on a couple of B roads.
I would strongly recommend a Road Bike or light weight Hybrid that must be road worthy, this is not really suitable for mountain bikes unless you are an experienced rider, as you will be riding on roads for 25 miles. Please ensure your tyres are in good condition as the road surface can be varied. We will look to average approx 11 MPH.
Helmets are most definately advised and remember to bring a water bottle with you and waterproofs if the weather is inclement.
