(3) ReviewsA steady ride along parks, canal and green spaces in Brent and Ealing. This is suitable for adults and children who are confident on their bikes, even if they aren’t very confident in traffic.
We start off with Gladstone Park and then continue to the Welsh Harp reservoir where we have a quick pause to enjoy this oasis of greenery and wildlife. We carry on riding through Wembley and Brent River Park, soon joining the Grand Union Canal towpath until we reach Horsenden Hill. As the name says, we have a little hill to climb here, but those who find it hard can safely push their bikes up as we are completely separate from motor traffic. We keep riding until we get to Greenford, where we stop at Starbucks at Greenford Quay for a coffee and toilet break. After that, we continue through Perivale and Pitshanger parks and cross Hanger Lane in the direction of Royal Park, using segregated lanes. We then join the canal towpath once more until Harlesden, riding through back roads back to Roundwood Park.
The Welsh Harp and Horsenden Hill have some rough terrain stretches so a road bike with skinny tyres may struggle on this ride. Our break stop is about 14 miles into our ride, so it may be a good idea to bring a snack if you feel peckish before then.
Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. Lockdown rules will have been lifted by then but we recommend that you continue to take care and keep social distancing and wearing a mask if entering a busy indoor space like a toilet. Children are welcome to join as long as they have good control of their bikes and can handle the distance. Limit of 2 children per responsible adult (who should supervise them at all times). Places are limited and sometimes get booked up with a waiting list. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or have been told to self-isolate before the ride, or can't make it for any other reason, please ensure to cancel your space. Only riders who booked themselves on the ride will be allowed to join. Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains. Dress for the weather and bring a rain coat just in case.
