This ride is especially for adults, children and teens who want to increase their riding distance, know how to use their gears and want to build in climbing a few hills. The pace of this ride will be below 10 mph, likely to be c. 7-9 mph over the undulating route. There is one big climb up Windmill Hill - but the cafe is at the top - so well worth the effort and achievement of climbing it and no shame if you need to get off and walk part of it - this ride is all about giving people a chance.
The route out to the Common Ground Coffee House at Chipperfield is mainly on very quiet country lanes, with lovely scenery. Common Ground is a little gem of a cafe well worth finding. :) We may have to queue a bit but we promise the food and drink there is worth waiting for whether you want a homemade sausage roll, avocado bruschetta, or a large slab of delicious cake! :)
Yves Remedios, Tom Barber & Eleri Evans will be your kind and supportive Ride Leaders. :)
Please bring two spare inner tubes in case of a puncture - as changing an inner tube is faster than getting out the rubber glue. The Ride Leaders can help if anyone in the group has a puncture on the day. Watford Cycle Hub sell inner tubes from £4 new, or second hand ones for 50p patched, £1 with no patches, should you need to purchase one.
Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped. You can also come along early before the ride to use our track pump, or we can help you get your tyres to the correct pressure pre-ride. :)
If your bike might need a little more TLC or hasn't been ridden for a while, you can always bring it in for a free assessment; we're a Not-For-Profit, Community Enterprise and promise to give you an honest price if your bike needs fixing, fine tuning or a full service. :)
