If you're working your way through the 100 Greatest Hill Climbs, here is your chance to tick off number 42, Jackson Bridge. If you've done it before, here is your chance to see if you can get up it quicker than last time! If you're not doing the 100 Greatest Hill Climbs, here is your chance to start! This ride starts from Trek Bicycles at Fox Valley, Stocksbridge and heads out through Deepcar and up to Thurgoland. We'll then continue via Oxspring and Penistone to Carlecotes and on to Hade Edge before crossing the moors to the foot of the Jackson Bridge climb. This is a steep climb with a total length of 0.9 miles, a maximum gradient of 20% and an average gradient of 10% (but there is no rush, we'll take it slow and there is no shame in walking if you need to). Once we've completed this challenging ascent, we swing back round Millhouse Green and through the lanes to Snowden Hill before dropping down the steep descent of Pea Royd lane to return to Trek and a coffee/cake/lunch opportunity. There are challenging hills on this ride, but we'll take our time and stop for breathers if necessary. Don't forgot to bring a water bottle and some food - you'll be burning quite a few calories on those hills!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
We recommend that all participants wear a helmet. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre-ride checks; we recommend that you also carry at least one spare inner tube, a pump (CO2 inflators are also highly recommended). It is also a good idea to carry a spare chain link that matches your bike’s chain (e.g. 9, 10 or 11 speed). If you have a mechanical problem we will do our best to assist you and/or lend you an inner tube or repair kit if we can, but it is always best to be self-reliant. Don’t forget to bring money for refreshments and a mobile phone.
