I’m sure many of you will have heard of the Couch to 5km training plan? The idea is to transform you from ‘couch potato’ to ‘runner’, getting you running three miles (or 5k) on a regular basis in just two months…

British Cycling have come up with a similar idea to encourage you to dig your bike out of the shed and get riding! It is ideal for the complete cycling novice who is looking to start cycling for health, fitness, recreation, commuting or perhaps to tackle a challenge or charity ride up to 50km (30 miles) long.

Willingham Wheels are running the programme and will be starting the 8-week training plan on Tuesday 9th April. Rides will usually be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Time commitment ranges from a minimum of 1 hour 30 minutes per week to a maximum of 6 hours 30 minutes per week.

Under 16’s are most welcome but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Willingham Wheels are running the British Cycling Sofa to 50km programme. It's an 8-week programme to encourage you to dig your bike out of the shed and get riding!

Roads will vary. We'll start by using the Guided Busway and as you get more confident riding in a group, we'll transfer to quiet roads trying to avoid as much traffic as we can.

The rides increase in length and duration as we progress through the programme. We will stop for refreshment on the longer rides!

A helmet is advisable. Make sure you bring something waterproof as the weather may not always be kind. Bring a water bottle too!

First-timers welcome!
