EX20 2JA

South Zeal Recreation Ground car park. South Zeal, Nr Okehampton, Devon, EX20 2JA

A rolling up and down sort of ride. To Castle Drogo for afternoon tea and cake. Drogo - a bike ride to a castle for tea. This ride is Hilly. You need a bike with working gears. We will take it at a gentle pace though. This route is about 15 miles of rolling hills on the edge of Dartmoor. Nothing is monster steep but there is not much that is flat either.  Most of the route is on narrow country lanes with one short section of fast main road through the village of Whiddon Down. Route is: South Zeal- East Week - Gooseford-Whiddon Down- Drewsteigton Rd to Drogo, returning via spinsters rock, Witheycombe, East Ash, Gooseford, Addiscot, Shelley and South Zeal. Castle Drogo is a National trust property near Chagford, it has a modern tea room selling cake, drinks and other eatables, and a National trust shop. There is bike parking but bring a lock as you can't see the bike rack from the Cafe. No need to be NT member to use the Tea room. South Zeal Rec ground Car park is at the bottom of the village of South Zeal, about 4 miles from the Okehampton or Whiddon Down exits from the A30. Parking is free. There are public toilets in the Rec ground.
