Starting point

L37 1LJ

Entrance to National Trust Formby Victoria Road Formby

A loop from Formby to Ainsdale passing several local Nature Reserves.   We will start at the entrance to the National Trust, home to a large red squirrel colony and cycle up to Freshfield Station.  Here we leave the quiet Victoria Road and head along the bridle path and passing along the edge of RAF Woodvale, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the Freshfield Dune Heath Nature Reserve.  After following the path through Formby Golf Club and riding through Ainsdale Sand Dune Nature Reserve.   After a flapjack break, we'll make our way back to Formby.   Sunset will be around 8pm, so please ensure you have lights for your bike.  This ride is best enjoyed on a hybrid or mountai bike.  Please also make sure you have suitable, comfortable clothes.  Layers are best.   Newcomers to Breeze rides are very welcome, don't worry if you don't know anyone, we're a friendly bunch.  Dress appropriately for the weather: in cool weather it's good to wear lots of thin layers, so you can add/remove them as needed; a rain jacket is a good idea too Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part.  If you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one then.   The start and end point are close to Freshfield Station.  Trains run every 15 minutes from Freshfield Station and there is no additional charge for taking a bike on Merseyrail trains.
