If you’re fairly confident on your bike on dirt and gravel surfaces and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Off-Road Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, there is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us! Rides are between 5 and 15 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
This ride takes us on a circuit of Torbay's new Geotrail a 5 mile circular route on mostly traffic free gravel track overlooking Torbay.
Starting from Occombe Farm it takes us northwards before we cross onto the track and wind our way towards Cockington with glorious views of Torquay and its coast line. In Cockington we step back in time with thatched cottages and the ancient Church of St George and Saint Mary (c1069) in Cockington Court. There is also a wonderful parkland in which to cycle and relax as well as a tearoom. Here we stop for refreshment.
From Cockington the trail passes through woodland with a variety of old buildings to investigate and the possibility of wildlife such as deer. We use the trail to climb back through the woods up to Occombe farm to complete the ride.
Once back at the farm why not take a glance in the shop and pick up some locally sourced food, or maybe stop for a bite to eat in the cafe for a taste of Devon.
