Breeze Bike Rides in Crawley This is a steady, mainly off road ride to Tilgate Park and around the lakes and forest trails in the park. The surface is a mix of tarmac shared use paths and rough forest trails - which are sandy, stony and muddy in some places so suitable only for mountain and knobbly tyred hybrid bikes. The nearest toilets are in Maidenbower Pavilion at the start of the ride and Tilgate Park toilets during the ride. Please note that the entrance into the public car park at the Maidenbower Pavilion has a height barrier – if you carry your bike on the roof of the car, alternative parking is available at the Maidenbower shops opposite the park. This short cycle is ideal if you want to branch out a bit from the Worth Way! We will use the tunnel under the railway line by Oriel School to access the forest trails of Tilgate Golf Course and Tilgate Park. We remain on the park side of the A23 rather than crossing into the forest, so no technical mountain biking involved, but be prepared for some bumpy, muddy tracks which may take you slightly out of your comfort zone. We will cycle round the park, returning via the road to the Tilgate Forest Golf Centre for a refreshment stop, before heading back to Maidenbower. Don't forget suitable clothing, a drink, spare inner tube, puncture repair kit and a pump (and any medication you may require). Please give your bikes tyres, brakes and gears a check over before you come along and consider a service if you haven't used it recently! Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don't have one, you may still take part, but if you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one before the next time. We welcome beginners. This time the ride is for women (over 16) only, but please let us know if you would be interested in a similar ride with children in the future.
