Starting from - Tennis courts of BHASVIC (Brighton & Hove Sixth Form College). BHASVIC is on the junction of the A270 Old Shoreham Road and Dyke Road. The tennis courts are off Crocodile Walk 2000 which runs alongside the College. We have access to the toilets in the BHASVIC sports hall and can also use the BHASVIC car park, but only until 11:00. If you are bringing your bike by car, parking is therefore better on the local residential streets. That way, you can join in the ride to Carat's cafe without fear of your car getting locked into the College for the weekend! If you can't find BHASVIC or the tennis courts, call the ride leader Alison on 07967 094967, BN3 6EG

This series of combined coaching sessions and rides will build your skills and confidence on your bike, as well as improving your ability to ride close to other riders. We will start each session with an hour's coaching at the BHASVIC tennis courts in Hove, then head out for a steady ride together, heading for Carat's cafe where we will pause for a chance for a cuppa and chat before returning along the same route (10 miles total). We always ride at the pace of the slowest in the group, and never leave anyone behind. The route is mainly on cycle paths with only one short section of quiet road along the seafront. The focus of the coaching will depend partly on the skill level of the group, but is likely to include: - Basic safety checks for your bike and clothing - Pedalling efficiently and safely - How to brake smoothly, safely, and efficiently - Using gears to manage your energy on a ride - Riding one-handed so that you can signal, eat and drink whilst riding - Looking behind whilst riding - Cornering safely and efficiently - Group riding (two abreast plus behind one another) The coaching sessions and rides will be led by Alison, a fully qualified British Cycling Level 2 Road & Time Trial Coach, Bikeability Instructor, and Level 2 Ride Leader. She will have an assistant ride leader with her to ensure no-one gets left behind on the ride. If you have any questions about the coaching or ride, get in touch with Alison on 07967 094967. Please check your bike before you set out - are the tyres fully inflated? Do both brakes work? Is the chain oiled? Please also bring a cycling helmet (insurance cover for the coaching element reqauires that you wear one), drink, spare inner tube, and money for the cafe. Full fingered gloves are recommended as well as layers to manage your temperature.
