Pontefract Castle
Starting at the picturesque Pontefract Castle, this great route follows the route of stage 2 of the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire. After just a few miles in Pontefract town, the surroundings are very quickly transformed into the lovely rolling West Yorkshire countryside.
Quiet roads and wonderful views are the order of the day before passing through the villages of South Elmsall, South Kirby and Hemsworth.
On leaving Hemworth the route is back out into the countryside, making the way back towards Pontefract on the West Yorkshire Cycling Route, which is a route around West Yorkshire specifically picked for its quiet cycle friendly roads.
