This rides starts in the tarmac parking area opposite Adel church. We carry straight on, past Adel Mill in the dip, across King Lane and onto Eccup Lane, immediately right onto Eccup Moor Road, follow this road through the countryside until we come onto a road without vehicular access apart from Yorkshire Water vehicles, pass the treatment works on your left, then sharp right and up to the reservoir. We stop and take in the views. We carry straight on, and cross the main Leeds to Harrogate road by foot. We go up the path and around the back of GSAL onto Wigton Lane. We turn left . At the T junction, at the pub, we turn right and then left heading into Shadwell. We do a circular, relatively flat route around Shadwell detouring on this afternoon ride to stop for a break at the Milk Churn cafe, just off the Wetherby road - for either a cuppa or a fantastic gelato. This will entail a short stretch on the busy Wetherby Road, which we will take carefully. once out of Shadwell we return on to Wigton lane and at the end we cross at the traffic lights on to the long Alwoodley Lane, to the end where we turn right on King Lane and then left back past Adel Mill and back to our starting point.
This ride is approx 14.5 miles. It is relatively flat but with a few short inclines along the way. It is perfect for women who wish to gain more confidence on the roads and who want to stretch themselves a little distance wise. There are a variety of roads to experience. Numbers are limited so that everyone feels comfortable with the group and we leave no one behind.
This is a good ride for people progressing on from the Brownlee centre, who want some more experience on roads. The roads are generally quiet. there are a few left and right turn, and x roads, to practice. Depending on group capability we can extend the ride .
quiet roads around the back of adel, to eccup and then, if wished, on to Alwoodley.
bring your drink and biscuit for a stop at the reservoir.
