We start at the Cyncoed Methodist Church and cycle through the Eastern suburbs of Cardiff towards Old St Mellons. From here we climb the hill over to Bassleg and then head towards Rogerstone. We then join the B4591 briefly and then climb a hill to the canal. We will be cycling off road on the canal tow path until Risca. We then join the B4591 again heading towards Crosskeys and onto the Sustrans cycle track 47 through the Sirhowy Valley. After Sirhowy, we join Pandy Lane in Maesycwmmer and cycle onto Bedwas. Finally picking up Sustrans cycle route 4 towards the pretty villages of Machen, Draethen and Michaelston y Fedw. Then back through Pontprennau to Cyncoed.

This is an undulating ride from Cardiff heading North East to the pretty beech woods in the Sirhowy Valley. There are some hills, but worth the reward of lovely views of channel and the mountains above the Rhymney Valley.

We will be cycling on suburban roads, quiet country lanes, on B4591 through Risca and Crosskeys and then onto the off road Sustrans cycle track 47 through the Sirhowy Valley.

We'll be stopping in a café in Risca for an early lunch.

Please wear a helmet and bring bike lights and a snack, because it’s quite a long ride.

We never leave anyone behind
