Starting point

Cheshire
WA5 0DU

Leaving Bewsey, we continue through Sankey Valley Park to the A57. We cross the A57 (pedestrian crossing) by the David LLoyd Centre and regain the park briefly to Old Liverpool Road. At the Sloop Pub, we turn right to join the Trans-Pennine Trail and follow it westerly to Widnes Marina, opposite Spike Island. We then pass the Catalyst Museum and through terraced housing to gain the cycle path across Mersey Jubilee Bridge to the Runcorn side. A network of quiet cycle paths then takes us across the Bridgewater Canal to our destination at The Brindley Theatre and a planned coffee/tea break.
Return is by the outward route.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

A mostly flat ride following the waterways to the west of Warrington. Plenty of river and estuary scenery and wildlife, as well as many historical points throughout, that chart the varied industrial heritage of our region.

Mostly off-road using cycling paths through Sankey Valley Park and the Trans-Pennine Trail to Widnes. Using the dedicated Cycle lane to cross the SilverJubilee bridge over Mersey to Runcorn.

Plenty of stops can be had along the way and the midway stop will be at The Brindley Arts Venue overlooking the Bridgewater Canal

Helmets are advisable and mandatory for U-18 years riders. Waterproofs, gloves and warm clothing are recommended in case the weather changes. Please pack a basic tool kit and spare inner-tubes, patches. Money/card if buying refreshments.

First-timers welcome!
