THIS RIDE: an urban ride to Islington to visit the statue of Bob, the Street Cat, and to eat some pretzel (or any other treat) at the German bakery Zeit Fur Brot. We cycle through a lot of quiet roads but also tackle a couple of busy junctions, so you need some confidence in traffic.
PLACES WE CYCLE PAST: Camden, Regent’s Canal, Islington Green, Finchley Road. There are a couple of hilly sections but we have pretzel as a prize!
THE DESTINATION: Bob was a stray cat who adopted his human James Bowen when he was homeless. The bond between them is the story of the book A Street Cat Named Bob. Bob died in 2020, and James raised funds to build a statue in his homage, in Islington Green.
Just before seeing the statue, we stop at the German bakery Zeit Fur Brot, opposite Angel station. We will need to park our bikes in the high street, so bring a sturdy lock (or 2).
We aim to be back at Roundwood Park at about 2pm.
